Problem Statement and Solution Architecture

Operational Need

The Problem & Constraints

Overhead and underground residential water tanks regularly overflow during municipal pumping or run dry without warning, causing severe water wastage and pump motor burnouts from dry running.

Delivered Architecture

The Engineering Solution

Built a bench-scale embedded hardware assembly integrating a liquid level sensing interface with a microcontroller to measure fluid depth in real time, compute container volume percentage, and detect high/low boundary thresholds.

System Architecture & Operational Workflow

Bench-scale container with level sensing transducer connected to a microcontroller ADC interface, executing signal smoothing, depth quantization, and threshold logic.

Step 01

Transducer Sampling

Sensor interface measures liquid distance/immersion at scheduled sampling intervals.

Step 02

Signal Conditioning

Microcontroller applies median filtering to remove surface ripple noise caused by inflow splashing.

Step 03

Capacity Mapping

Raw level reading is converted into discrete percentage increments (0%–100%).

Step 04

Threshold Output

System updates visual status indicators and signals cutoffs when tank reaches 95% full or drops below 15%.

Key Subsystems & Functional Modules

Detailed breakdown of core software components, algorithms, and automated interfaces engineered for this project.

Ripple-Resistant Sampling

Software filtering preventing false trigger spikes caused by turbulent water inflow.

Boundary Cutoffs

Automated cutoff signal logic designed to protect pump motors against dry-running.

Bench-Scale Test Container

Physical test vessel allowing repeatable verification of sensor linearity across varying fill levels.

Scalable Firmware Architecture

Modular I/O architecture allowing straightforward expansion to wireless transceivers or relay modules.

Engineering Contribution

  • Bench-scale physical assembly, sensor signal calibration, noise filtering algorithms, and threshold detection firmware.

Validation & Testing Evidence

  • Tested in a controlled laboratory test container; verified linear level readout across 10 stepped fluid volume increments; validated threshold cutoff triggering on high and low levels.

Technical Scope Transparency & Future Roadmap

TrustByte adheres to rigorous engineering ethics. We explicitly delineate verified production features from simulated models, proposed future integrations, or hardware constraints:

  • Built and evaluated as a bench-scale proof of concept; does not claim commercial municipal deployment, IoT cloud dashboards, or high-voltage automated pump relay switching in this prototype iteration.
